Coddgulley

From Boarmumps Academy

Coddgulley is a beloved sport that many Boarmumps students play. Each cottage fields an official coddgulley team and the cottages compete each year for the Coddgulley Crown.

Coddgulley Field

Basic Rules

The game is played with 5 players per side - 2 spellers and 3 handlers - in a walled grassy enclosure with two nets at either end. Each team's handlers attempt to throw the ball into the opposing team's net, while the spellers use their pens or pencils to create defensive barrier spells or offensive wind spells to aid their handlers.

Each game is played for 2-4 periods of 20-30 minutes each (the exact timing and length is determined randomly just before the match commences).

Balls in the net score 3 points while balls that hit either of the back walls score 1 point. If a team is scored upon in their net, they take possession and all spells are automatically purged from the field. If the ball bounces off a wall while scoring (a "wally"), the ball is still considered live and can be rebounded by the offense and scored again.
