When April Fool's Day arrives, the world of sport usually springs a surprise or two with a prank you'd never expect to see.
And today was no different with the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Premier League outfit Southampton and the Australian Open joining in on the act this year - but how many did you fall for?
Here, Sportsmail take a look at our favourite pranks from April Fool's Day 2016. 

 
Premier League high-flyers Southampton announced a new club crest which would be used from next season onwards. 
Switching from their current badge which has been in place for over 20 years, the St Mary's outfit replaced the football with the saint emoji - in tribute to their nickname the Saints.  
Chief executive Gareth Rogers explained the decision on April Fool's Day: 'We pride ourselves on being a progressive and forward-thinking club, and believe the new crest will play an important part in helping us make the next step.'

Arsenal announced the world's first retractable sunroof at the Emirates Stadium, which had been inspired by Citroen technology.
The Premier League giants posted a video via their official Twitter which displayed the club's vision with the new roof.
Not only would it protect the fans and players, messages, images and even instant match replays would be projected on the roof. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain hailed the roof as 'important for us'.

Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph was being interview by CityTV's Nicola McCarthy in what looked like a routine chat with the footballer.
But when the presenter asked the former Aston Villa star about his injury return, the midfielder slowly begun to lose his cool before storming out the room.
When Delph returned to the room minutes later, an apologetic McCarthy was insistent on making amends before Delph revealed the April Fools - and quite a few expletives followed!

In an astonishing announcement, Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand announced his Old Trafford return... as the club's manager.
The former England international took to his Twitter account on Friday to reveal he was taking over the reins at his old hunting ground. 

He tweeted: 'New Chapter.. Contract signed.. Looking forward to going into management in June. Big summer ahead!'
The former England defender later confirmed it was in fact an April Fool's by posting another picture on Twitter.

In a first for tennis, the Australian Open revealed plans to use a timber surface when the Grand Slam returns in 2017.
